Use fighters and bombers to help define the roles of other ships. Who wants a one ship fleet, stocked with the best, and off it goes. Whatever Figheters and Bombers end up being, please please please have them increase the neccecity of mixed fleets, or increasing the roles of the hunters and the gaurdian ships. However, I'm going to try to make a point that hopefully will resonate with a few of you. The implementaion scheme they are setting up seems great, I can't find a thing to think about. I know everyone is super excited for Fighters and Bombers, I know I am. Here the mechanic can not only provide depth to strategic (where to station the one vital carrier) and tactical decisions, but also much needed unceartanty and thereby player influnce for the tactical game as well as visual variety, and most of all: randomness to keep the cinematics fresh. holding out untill the brand-new state-of-the art friendly destroyer arrives, I felt like playing a tiny yet important cog in a strategy game :)

Zigging between enemy capital ships that were coming down hard with the energy beams (three times the diameter of my own craft) on allied corvettes while they were providing flak cover from enemy fighters. There were many cool space sims out there (played Wing Commander Prophecy to death) but that game felt like a game within a game. WW2 is a good material in this regard for both movies and games as the personal heroism of a single pilot can be put well into sceneryįor me the golden standard of all these media is Freespace 2. That sound like the direction being taken here: Carrier being the ultimate core component of an effective strikefleet due to its small craft load

An experienced fighter shouldnt just soak up more damage but instead be able to avoid more shots. It would be nice to see actual manuvers and such instead of just seeing them go head to head and hit every time. In terms of Dogfights fighters vs bombers and also fighters vs fighters, it would be nice to see them miss because in ES1 every time a fighter shoots they always hit their target. Now I know this is a space game with space battles but it is also Sci Fi and all good Sci Fi action has been based off WW2 style battles but just translated to space, for example Star Wars and other such famous Sci Fi like Battlestar Galatica. I think ES1 had this concept perfectly correct and If ES2 was the same I think is fine just make the animations and dogfights look better, in terms of balance there is no need to fix what isn’t broken. Flak or anti air was not as effective as having Fighters on dedicated CAP. Big intimidating battleships with all that amour, flak and cannons were sunk or severely damaged by squadrons of bombers, if they did not have fighter cover to protect them they were very vulnerable. I think this reflects how in WW2 carriers made the traditional battleship obsolete because they had more range and flexibility. Therefore in order to keep Bombers alive you would also need fighters to escort them thus making a balance fleet always was the safest bet. The way to counter the Bombers was to have high tier fighters. In ES1 the way it was for Fighters/Bombers was like this: Bombers were the most lethal to all ship types especially high tier Bombers, they would kill large and small ships.
